Collin County Non-Profit Spotlight: Mommies in Need

Each month, Collin County Moms Blog features a local non-profit organization that assists moms and/or families in need. We love the opportunity to spotlight how local families can help out through volunteering, donating time or money and more, right in our own community. We try to pick organizations that our contributors know and volunteer for personally, and are eager to share the needs of our friends and neighbors throughout Collin County.

Think back to a day when you felt your worst. Maybe you had the flu, or a migraine that lasted for hours, or maybe you’d been up all night with a newborn and had zero energy to get through the day. It’s virtually impossible to take care of your children when you feel this awful. Now, multiply those feelings by a thousand. This is how some moms feel all the time with no relief in sight – moms who might be recovering from a serious surgery or undergoing cancer treatments. Thankfully, there is an amazing non-profit organization called Mommies in Need that serves moms in Dallas and Collin County, and their goal is simple: letting moms focus on their recovery while taking the stress of childcare off their shoulders.

Mommies in Need is dedicated to helping moms as they go through a health crisis by providing them with free full- or part-time childcare – up to six months, if needed. The nannies they hire and trust are background checked, CPR certified, thoroughly vetted, and qualified in taking care of children who have a sick parent. Not only is it their intention to give moms a chance to rest and heal, but they strive to provide consistency with their childcare by making an effort to send the same nanny for each visit. This aim for normalcy is a comfort for both the children being taken care of and the mother who is permitting herself to focus on her own needs.

I first heard about Mommies in Need at a MOPS meeting last year. After listening to stories and testimonials, I couldn’t help but think: “This all seems so straightforward! Why would we ever hesitate to help a mom in need, especially a mom with a serious illness?” In four years, this incredible organization has helped 28 different families and covered the cost of 11,000 hours of childcare. Just pause and think of the enormous amount of support and donations it took to fund such a large undertaking!

So how can you help? While Mommies in Need is always accepting donations, they happen to have an exciting event coming up: Mommies in Need Presents All That Jazz fundraiser and silent auction. This event, happening April 21 in Dallas, not only allows you to escape for a fun date night, it gives you the opportunity to support such an important and necessary organization. Get your tickets here! Mommies in Need needs your help to continue flourishing in our community by spreading the word of their mission.

Founder and President, Natalie Boyle, sums up Mommies in Need perfectly:

As a former Mommy In Need myself, let me assure you that every bit of time and money that you can donate to this cause makes a true impact not only on the lives of these moms, but also on the well-being of their kids.”

If one of your goals for 2018 was to shine a light on the lives of others and show them that there is still some good left in the world, then consider helping Mommies in Need achieve their mission of helping as many moms as they can.
