The Life-Changing Magic of the Mom Car

It’s official: I have a mom car. I used to drive a trendy SUV, more than capable of carrying everything my family of three could possibly need. As my son got older and we began to go on more road trips, we needed more space. And really, with one kid? I don’t need a minivan.

Enter: the mom car. One test drive and I was hooked. The interior? Huge. It was comfortable, handled well, and I’m pretty sure I could fit the contents of a tiny house in the trunk with space left over.

Do you know how much stuff my center console can hold? Three-fourths of a bushel. And that doesn’t even include the slot for my phone, the glove box, trunk, or the cupholders that outnumber the amount of seats in my SUV.

But, before I continue rhapsodizing about cupholders and storage, what, exactly, is the mom car? Well, it’s a car that allows you the convenience to do whatever you need to, while also being able to semi-attend to the small ones in the back. It does so by making everything so convenient you wonder why you never had one of these before.

I mean, I have a button for everything. Want lights on in the back? There’s a button for that. What about more air? There’s a button for that. Forget the garage door opener? There’s a button for that. And I love it.

I also really love the space. Not only can I fit two strollers, two suitcases, my yoga mat, and assorted stuff in the trunk, but I can do so with space left over. When we traveled to Disney World this fall, we didn’t have to worry about how to best “TETRIS” the luggage into the car to be able to see out of the rear windshield, because we had enough space for everything.

Oh, and did I mention the fold-down third-row? Yeah, I love that part, too. A group of my friends came to visit Dallas earlier in the year, and I was able to fit five adults and one infant seat in the car. It was a bit of a squeeze, but I could do it, and everyone had a cupholder with an extra cupholder if they needed it. And when it was time to take everyone to the airport? I was able to fit all of the people and our luggage into the car. We had no room leftover, but we all fit, and I don’t know that I could have done that with my old car.

I love my mom car. It may sound crazy, but it really has changed my life. I can fit everything I need to carry day-to-day, while my son’s tablet can charge in the backseat in an easily-accessible-to-him location. I just don’t know why I didn’t embrace the mom car sooner.

So, tell me what you love about YOUR mom car!
