Easy Spring Craft Project with Video: A Hatching Baby Chick

Celebrate the season with a hatching baby chick. This is an easy spring craft for all ages! We made a video for you to watch and craft along with us (link at the bottom of this post).

We used:

  • Recycled cardboard egg carton
  • Yellow pom poms
  • Fluffy yellow feathers
  • Googly eyes
  • Orange felt
  • Scissors
  • Glue (We used a hot glue gun)

Directions: First, cut your egg carton and separate bottom of carton to top. You’ll want to cut out each individual egg carton cup. Trim off the excess edges. Add the yellow pom pom to the center of the egg carton cup.

Feel free to glue your pom pom if you want to keep your chick inside its egg. This is optional. We decided to not glue our chick to the egg carton cup so we could pretend it would eventually hatch “out” of the egg.

Now, time to decorate your chick!

Cut orange felt into a small diamond shape. Glue the felt to your chick in the center of the pom pom. Add googly eyes! Sometimes it’s fun to mix different sizes of eyes. Add fluffy yellow feathers by glueing directly onto your chick.
