Self-Care Ideas :: How to Beat the Winter Blues

Preparing for and celebrating the holiday season can be very exciting…and also very exhausting. When January and February roll around, the excitement of the holidays wears off, the weather gets dreary, and I always find myself feeling a little sad. This year, I decided I was going to look at the winter months in a different light, not only as a fresh start but also an opportunity to focus on self-care. Here are a few tips that have helped me cure the “holiday hangover,” beat the winter blues, and recharge after a long holiday season:

  • Stay active
  • Cook a nice meal (or try a meal-kit subscription for something new).
  • Plan a vacation OR Mom-cation.
  • Buy a new water bottle and focus on staying hydrated.
  • Take supplements: Many swear by taking a vitamin D supplement in the winter. My go- to for the winter months is magnesium.
  • Have lunch with a friend.
  • Treat yourself to a manicure/pedicure or a facial.
  • Wake up early and have time to yourself.
  • Start a gratitude journal.
  • Take a relaxing bubble bath.
  • Deep clean your house or treat yourself to a deep clean by a professional.
  • Make yourself a nice cup of coffee or your favorite tea.
  • Practice yoga or take a dance class.
  • Buy new pajamas, clothes, or warm slippers.
  • Spend time outdoors on sunny days.
  • Take a walk.
  • Watch your favorite movies or guilty pleasure shows.
  • Drink a glass of wine or, alternatively, take a break from alcohol.

My most important tip of all?
