Finding a mom-approved swimsuit you feel comfortable and confident in can feel like trying to find a unicorn. My body has changed so much after having kids that what I’m looking for now is different than what I gravitated toward before. The number of options often feels overwhelming, but have no fear: I have narrowed down the list to a handful of swimsuits that are flattering for mom bods and comfortable (which is what makes them mom-approved swimsuits!).

Walmart: Time and Tru Women’s V Wire One Piece Swimsuit

This is probably the most comfortable one-piece suit on the list and probably has the most coverage on the backside. I randomly purchased this from Walmart when I had forgotten to pack my swimsuit on a trip. I didn’t even try it on, so when I put it on later, I was shocked at how well it fit. The leopard print isn’t available anymore, but it comes in other colors. Available here in sizes S–3X.

Target: Kona Sol Ruffle Shoulder High Coverage One Piece Swimsuit

I tried on this cute V-neck at Target the other day and it fit really well and had good coverage in the back. It doesn’t have as much “tummy control” as some other suits I tried on, but I still liked it and found it flattering. Available here in sizes S–XL. A similar V-neck style but with a tie detail instead of a ruffle can be found here in bright red in sizes S–XL.

Cupshe: Ember Floral Wrap Plus Size One Piece Swimsuit

This wrap-style suit has really great coverage in the back, and I thought it was super cute. It is a lower cut in the front which may not work as well if you are top-heavy. The tie that goes in the back is quite long and can be pulled apart by little hands, so this may not be the best choice for those with babies. Cupshe one-pieces tend to be a little short in the torso, so you may need to size up. Read the reviews! Available here in sizes 0X–4X. Available here in smaller sizes (XS–L).

Cupshe: Romantic Floral O-Ring Tummy Control One Piece Swimsuit

I absolutely love this color and pattern! The back is more cheeky than the other Cupshe swimsuit above. These tend to run a little small, so size up if you are unsure. Available here in sizes XS–L. This style (or very similar) is offered in multiple colors and patterns in a variety of sizes on the Cupshe website (like these here and here), so search their site if you want some more options.

Cupshe: One-Piece Swimsuit with Wrap-Tie Side

Our contributor Bridget loves this wrap-style one-piece that’s also breastfeeding-friendly. There are more than a dozen colors for you to choose from and are great for petite mamas. Available here in sizes XS–XXL. A similar style in XS–XL can be found here.

Hilor: Women’s One-Piece Swimsuit With Asymmetric Ruffle

This beauty comes at the recommendation of several bloggers, including me! I really love the color and how pretty it makes me feel. It’s comfortable and has excellent coverage in the front and back. It comes in more than 40 different colors and patterns! Available here in sizes 6–18.

Target: Kona Sol Bandeau Flounce High-Coverage One-Piece Swimsuit

This swimsuit completely covers the bust area with a higher cut top and has a really cute ruffle detail. When I tried it on, I found the bandeau top was a little too loose in the chest for the size that fit my hips, so if you are pear-shaped like me, this might not work for you. It comes with some removable straps. Available here in sizes S–26W.

IFFEI: Mommy and Me Family Matching Swimsuit

Our contributor Elisa bought this lemon-themed bathing suit for her and her daughter There’s an entire family line available for men, women, and children. The bathing suits are reversible and very comfy. You can find this lemon two-piece here. Available sizes are currently L–XL but you can find more matching family swimsuits from IFFEI here.

J.Crew: Ruched One-Shoulder One-Piece

A friend of mine has this swimsuit, and it is so cute and flattering. She says it’s well worth the premium price and made of high-quality material. Available here in more than ten different colors from sizes 0–24.

DKNY: Ruffle Plunge Underwire Tummy-Control One-Piece Swimsuit

I tried this one on at Macy’s and liked it a lot. It comes in several different colors (the blue is stunning!), and it was flattering and comfortable. Available here in sizes 4–18.

  1. Great article! Have you heard of Jessica Rey (Rey Swimwear) swimsuits at JessicaRey.com? They are made in America. They have great coverage in the bottom and tummy. It’s a female owned company and her inspiration for the design is Audrey Hepburn- timeless and feminine. I bought a one-piece Rey swimsuit in 2014 and it lasted 7 years of regular use because the material quality is so high. I later bought a SummerSalt swimsuit (made in Sri Lanka) and found a cute pattern but the material quality was so much lower than Jessica Rey and the bottom coverage was skimpy. So I just ordered my next Jessica Rey swimsuit. I don’t get paid to recommend these swimsuits- I’m just a fan of them.
