A Guide to Winter Fitness & Fun Runs in Collin County

There always seem to be a lot of fun runs scheduled for this time of year. Probably because the holidays are associated with indulgence and near-constant eating. It’s also a time of giving, and races almost always benefit a good cause. Consider registering the family for one of these fun runs in Collin County (or Collin County-adjacent). Fitness! Fresh air! You’re doing amazing, sweetie!

November 25 :: Plano Turkey Trot :: Oak Point Park (& Virtual)

This Plano tradition continues in 2021 with a 5K and Kids’ Dash. Race proceeds benefit Best Buddies, a non-profit dedicated to helping pair mentors to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). And Hypnotic Donuts will be there to reward you if you run/walk the in-person event.

December 4 :: Reindeer Run 5K and Grinch Sprint :: Flower Mound

The Reindeer Run is a gently sloping, stroller-capable, chip timed run through the trails of Heritage and Bakersfield parks in south Flower Mound. The Grinch Sprint is a 1 mile run for kids. Santa Claus and the Grinch will be there for photos with the kids. Come in costume ready for Christmas! 7-10am.

December 4 :: Holly Jolly 5K & Fun Run :: Allen

Formally the Rudolph Run, this 5K & fun run offers two different options: the family-friendly 5K competition is open to all ages; they’ll issue a chip to attach to your bib for measuring time. The Holly Jolly Fun Run is a non-competitive run for participants of all ages. See link for additional details on each. If you’re not a morning person, this could be the event for you. It starts at 3:30pm!

December 5 :: Frosty 5k and Merry Mile :: Frisco

The Merry Mile begins at 8:30am and the 5K starts at 9am. Party in the Plaza/Awards starting at 10am! Walkers welcome.

December 18 :: Camp Gladiator :: Granite Park, Plano

The Boardwalk at Granite Park will squeeze in one more free class in while it’s still technically fall. Join Jessie P, the best CG coach in Plano, for an hour class at the Pavilion. Register at the link. 10-11am.

Katie grew up in Dallas and then spent 10 post-college years in Austin, where she and her husband Mick welcomed a daughter and son (in 2011 and 2013). They've since moved to Fort Worth and find it to be quite fun and a great place for kids. Katie is horrible at social media but secretly likes Twitter best. Favorite uses for her phone: reading library books and listening to comedy podcasts. Least favorite uses: making and receiving calls. If you've seen Death Becomes Her or Big Business more than once, you'll be best friends.
